The story behind One Life
Michael Landry is the founder of One Life Clothing, a luxury streetwear brand based in Lake Elsinore, California, built around purpose, ambition, and legacy. A retired Marine Corps First Sergeant with 22 years of service, Michael brings a deeply personal meaning to the words “One Life. Make It Count.”
Where it began
In 2015, Michael was stationed in Japan and had served in the Marine Corps for 15 years. His vision had deteriorated following his last deployment to Afghanistan, and he was facing a future he struggled to accept.
He began sewing and threading needles—tasks that demanded the very ability he was losing. Clothing started as a hobby and a personal challenge. There was no brand name or business plan yet. There was a determination to keep trying.
“I kept saying, ‘I’ll see again.’”
Before losing his vision, Michael had built a career marked by five combat deployments, recruiting duty, and advancement through the enlisted ranks. Blindness challenged his independence and brought him to a low point mentally. For a full year, he lived without his sight before surgeries restored his vision in October 2016.
The meaning of One Life
Recovering his sight became a turning point. As Michael emerged from the depression he had experienced while blind, one thought stayed with him: you only get one life, so live it with no regrets.
That realization gave the hobby its name and its purpose.
The determination that carried him through his recovery became part of One Life Clothing: keep going, believe in yourself, and refuse to give up when life becomes difficult.
Clothing that speaks for you
Michael wants people wearing One Life to feel that they have beaten the odds and belong to something bigger than themselves. He describes the clothing as armor for life—a way to express grit, unselfishness, and extraordinary willpower.
Today, that vision guides One Life Clothing’s luxury streetwear and its flagship ON GO collection.
His proudest accomplishments remain personal: overcoming what he has faced, being a Marine, and the family whose support helped carry him through it. His wife and children are central to the story behind the brand.
“I am trying to build a brand people can wear that speaks for them.”
